Claudia Reardon, MD
David Baron, DO
Dr. Baron is professor and vice chair of Psychiatry at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He also directs the school's Global Center for Exercise, Psychiatry, and Sport. In addition, he is chair of a section on topics related to Sports Psychiatry for the World Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization.
Baron has published extensively on sports psychiatry with more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and 300 scientific presentations. His current research is in the areas of concussions and brain injuries to athletes. Dr. Baron is aimed at developing more sensitive, user-friendly screening instruments and methods, and increasing public awareness of this problem. Ira Glick, MD
Dr. Glick joined the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine in July 1993. He has been Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) from 1968-1978 and at the Cornell University Medical College from 1978-1993. During his tenure at Cornell, he was also Senior Science Advisor to the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (1988-1990).
Dr. Glick’s research has focused on 1) the effectiveness of psychiatric hospitalization, 2) the current and future treatment of schizophrenia and mood disorders including combining medication and psychotherapy (individual and family) and 3) the diagnosis and treatment of athletes (sports psychiatry). He is the lead editor for the first text of its kind entitled “The ISSP Manual of Sports Psychiatry” to be published by Routledge press in 2018.
A 1961 graduate of New York Medical College, Dr. Glick is a 1) Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), a founding member of both the American Family Therapy Academy and the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP) and a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP). Dr. Glick has been elected to membership of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) and the American College of Psychiatrists (ACP). He has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific articles and book chapters, eight books as well as model psychopharmacology curriculums for teachers of psychiatric residents, medical students and primary care physicians.
He has received numerous awards for his research and teaching including those from the APA (separate named awards for research, teaching and rehabilitation), ACNP and the Association of Academic Psychiatry. He also received the 2014 K P Soo Award from the APA, “exemplary psychiatrist” recognition from the National Alliance for Mental Illnesses (NAMI) and 2018 Dean Award from the ACP for schizophrenia research.
He was appointed Emeritus Professor at Stanford in 2010. He is now a Visiting Professor at three medical schools (Weill Cornell Medical College, NYU and UC San Diego) and has recently rejoined the faculty at UCSF.
